Asian Games: Medal spree continues, Palak wins gold, Esha silver in Women’s 10m pistol

17-year old Palak gave India its eighth gold medal, while Esha won her fourth medal in shooting

Following their impressive silver medal winning show in the team event, Palak and Esha Singh sealed the top two spots in the Women’s 10m air pistol individual event. Palak bagged India’s eighth gold medal with a score of 242.1 in the final. Esha ended up winning the silver after a thrilling final.

17-year old Palak with the score of 242.1 not only won the gold, but also established a new Games record in her category. She broke China’s record from 2018. With this gold, she has helped India go up to the fourth place in the medals tally. Esha Singh meanwhile finished with a score of 239.7.

For Esha, this is her second silver medal in individual event. She had earlier bagged a silver in the 25m air pistol event. Esha is also currently the player with the most medals from this year’s edition of the Asiad. Apart from the two silvers, she has a gold and a silver from the team events.

In the final, Palak showed impressive calmness. She took control of the proceedings and was in control right from the start. Esha followed her closely but was unable to go past her. The duo also faced challenge from Pakistan’s Kishmala Talat, who ended up winning bronze. It was Pakistan’s first medal in Asian Games history in shooting.

Palak and Esha’s podium finish has now given India 17 medals overall in shooting. It is the country’s highest-ever in the sport in the history of the Asiad. Now, India has a total of 30 medals at the ongoing Asiad, with eight gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals.
