Speaking after India’s squad announcement for the Asia Cup Chopra said, “Why everybody has forgotten about Mohammed Shami is beyond me. He has performed well, his IPL numbers are great.
“I think if it was a race between Avesh Khan and Mohammed Shami, I will go with Mohammed Shami with my eyes closed.
“Nothing against Avesh, but I feel that Shami should have been given a chance with the new ball in the absence of a Jasprit Bumrah,” said Aakash Chopra.

Former World Cup winner also criticizes Selectors
Adding to the vows for the selectors was former 1983 World Cup winner Krish Shrikant who said, “I think we are a medium pacer short. I think in my team Shami would have been there. Also, I still believe that Axar Patel would have been a strong contender for a spot in the squad.”
India have opted to bring in the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul while have kept the likes of Sanju Samson and Axar Patel (back-up only) out of the squad. Coach Rahul Dravid had deemed them to be part of the Indian team plans for the T20 World Cup, but has since dropped them from the squad.

KL Rahul has been handed the vice captaincy reins once again while Virat Kohli has returned. With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace attack. However, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer and Shreyas Iyer have been kept on standbys. Furthermore, there is no place for Ishan Kishan.
India have decided to go with four spinners with Deepak Hooda as a part-time option. But there are only three specialist spinners while Hardik Pandya is the other seam bowling option.
