Andrew Symonds Memorial Service: Matthew Hayden records a beautiful song for Symonds – The highlight of the Symonds Memorial Service was Hayden’s beautiful song, which he recorded while doing commentary duties in IPL. Gilchrist was simply bowled over by Hayden’s touching song and said it truly encapsulated who Symonds was.
“Haydos wrote the music, wrote the lyrics, and sang it,” Gilchrist said. “It was magic. It encapsulated perfectly who Roy was.”

Andrew Symonds Memorial Service: Gilchrist remembers Symonds for loyalty and mateship – Gilchrist got a bit emotional and remembered how loyal was the former Australia cricketer towards everyone.
“His friendship, his mateship, he was loyal almost to a fault,” Gilchrist said. “He was mischievous character, but his sense of loyalty, of wanting to think of everyone else more than himself, do whatever he could contribute on and off the field to help others.”
Ricky Ponting on having Symonds in any team any format – Ponting remembered the days when Symonds used to win matches for Australia singlehandedly. The former Australia captain lavished praise on Symonds and said he would pick him nay team, any format.
“He was one of the game’s great cricketers, all-around talents. Ricky Ponting says he would pick him in any team in any format of all time.
“So that’s a testament to the quality of cricketer he was, but we’re talking about Roy as a bloke and he was just a pure heart who found his way into trouble as well as anyone, then he was remorseful. He dusted himself off and was so apologetic, and then he just had another go at trying to get it right.
“He was loyal beyond belief, just good fun.”

Andrew Symonds Memorial Service: Guests console Symonds family – All the guests who attended the funeral consoled Symonds’s wife and his two kids. The coffin was surrounded by an array of hats, a cricket bat, a crab pot, and a bouquet of flowers.
Symonds tragically departed for heavenly abode two weeks ago, on May 14, after a single-vehicle car crash. His friends and family will gather on Friday to celebrate his life. The event will start at 10 AM IST and can be viewed on cricket.com.au.
As for the attendees, Ricky Ponting, who recently returned to Australia after his IPL coaching stint with Delhi Capitals, will be present at the event. Besides him, Adam Gilchrist, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher, and Matthew Mott will also be there. Poet Rupert McCall, who happened to be a close friend of Symonds, will recite a poem in his memory.
