Shree Charani achieved the no. 1 ranking in women's T20I charts, surpassing England's Linsey Smith.

One of the best players to come out of the Indian women’s team has to be left-arm spinner Shree Charani. She has been playing a major role in India’s white-ball success, and now is crowned as the new World No. 1 bowler in T20Is. This improvement in rankings comes after she picked up 10 wickets in only 3 matches, at the Women’s T20 World Cup.

And with her 3/24 against South Africa on June 21, she managed to dethrone England’s Linsey Smith, from the top. As per the latest rankings released recently, Charani is no. 1, followed by Charline Dean at no. 2, and Smith a no. 3. India’s Deepti Sharma dropped three rungs to no. 8.

Meanwhile, this is the most wickets picked up by any Indian bowler in a single edition of a Women’s T20 World Cup, equalling the record of Poonam Yadav — 10 wickets in the 2020 WC. In the match against Pakistan, she started with figures of 3/21, while against the Netherlands, she got a four-fer, and against the South African women, she got 3/24, in a match that India lost badly.

Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur gain positions

On the other hand, Renuka Singh Thakur, who hasn’t played a single match this edition, dropped to 15th slot. IN the ICC women’s T20I batting rankings, Smriti Mandhana is the best Indian batter, and is at 5th spot still. Her partner Shafali Verma has come up a rung — to 6th now.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, with a few decent scores, has entered the top 10, and is at 10th position for now. Team India next face Bangladesh on June 25, and will be up against Bangladesh, who have played three, won two and lost one. TO qualify for the semis, India must win their remaining two fixtures, sine the competition is only getting tight.
