The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Suryansh Shedge as the replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy for India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England. In the morning, reports have emerged that Nitish had been ruled out of the tour due to a quadriceps injury. The BCCI has confirmed the same.
Nitish Reddy out with injury
Nitish, who featured in the India vs Afghanistan ODI series, experienced some discomfort after he bowled 6 overs on June 20. The 23-year-old had missed the second game of the 3-match series due to a niggle but returned. However, that last game worsened things for Nitish.
Following further assessment, he has been ruled out for at least a month. That means Nitish won’t feature in the 7 T20I matches against Ireland and England, from June 26 to July 11, and the 3-match ODI series against England, from July 14 to 19.
“Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Suryansh Shedge earns maiden India call-up
The BCCI has given a maiden call-up to Shedge, who was part of India A’s winning tri-series run in Sri Lanka recently. The all-rounder from Mumbai played the role of a finisher, playing quickfire knocks and consolidation innings. He even chipped in with 23 overs across 5 matches, playing the role of the 6th bowler.
Suryansh Shedge stats in India A tri-series
| Innings | Runs | Highest Score | Average | Strike Rate | 50s | Overs Bowled | Wickets | Economy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 147 | 72 | 36.75 | 120.49 | 1 | 23 | 2 | 6.04 |
Similar to Nitish, Shedge is a right-arm fast bowler. At the moment, he isn’t as skillful as Nitish, who can swing the ball, has increased his pace, and has nailed the yorkers for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2026. However, as a project pick, Shedge is the right choice with massive upside.
The Mumbaiker didn’t bowl for Punjab Kings but played some impactful knocks and has followed that up with an all-round performance for India A. One can’t forget that, like Nitish, Shedge is also just 23. Right now, Nitish seems like the Hardik Pandya replacement, and Shedge seems like the Nitish replacement.
