Naseem Shah’s PSL 2026 campaign hadn’t even properly begun, and he already finds himself in the middle of a storm. The Pakistan pacer, one of the biggest names in the league this season, has been issued a show-cause notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following a controversial social media post that didn’t last long but created enough drama.
The incident unfolded during the opening game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was present at the Gaddafi Stadium as a guest of honour, arriving with a high-profile security convoy and interacting with players from both teams. It was a ceremonial appearance, but what followed shellshocked the PCB.
A post from Naseem Shah’s official account quote-tweeted a PCB video of the visit with the line, “Why is she treated like the Queen at Lord’s?” The post was deleted within minutes, but not before it caught attention across social media. Soon after, a clarification appeared from the same account, claiming it had been hacked and was now recovered. But by then, the damage had already been done.
PCB takes strict stance on Naseem Shah
The PCB has responded quickly. Within 24 hours, the board issued a show-cause notice to Naseem, stating that he had violated the terms of his central contract and the board’s media regulations.
“Naseem Shah is required to provide a response within the stipulated time. The PCB remains committed to upholding professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the game,” the board said in its statement. While the PCB did not explicitly mention the exact clause, it is understood to fall under provisions that prohibit public criticism or inappropriate comments about officials, policies or stakeholders.
This is not the first time the PCB has drawn a hard line. Just last year, Aamer Jamal was fined heavily for displaying a slogan linked to former Prime Minister Imran Khan during a Test series. The board has made it clear that political expression from players will not be tolerated.
For Naseem, the timing could not have been worse. Signed by Rawalpindi Pindiz for the new PSL season, he was expected to be a central figure in their campaign. Instead, he now heads into the tournament opener against Peshawar Zalmi with uncertainty hanging over him.
