Riot Games recently announced major updates for the 2027 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). The upcoming season shifts to a heavily performance-driven model. It introduces fresh regional leagues and massive financial incentives for aspiring rosters.

Revamped VCT 2027 Kickoff Tournaments

Kickoff events across the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific regions will now feature 12 teams. This lineup includes eight partnered organizations and four teams from open qualifiers. These competitors will battle in a grueling triple-elimination format. Ultimately, the top three rosters will secure direct invites to Masters.

Partner status no longer guarantees safety for future Cups. Partners failing to perform will drop into Open Playoffs. They must fight to earn their way back to the top tier. Teams eliminated early must start completely over in Open Qualifiers. This constant promotion and relegation system ensures every single match carries weight.

Expanded Regional Leagues

Fourteen regional leagues will now feed the global VCT ecosystem. These cover the Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China. Notably, the Pacific region is expanding to offer new pathways. Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam are receiving dedicated regional competitions. Meanwhile, South Asia and Oceania will compete through the Pacific Wild Card path.

VCT China will keep its unique visitor team system. Their Kickoff includes eight partners, two visitors, and two open qualifier spots. Visitor and partner teams get direct entry into early events.

Roster Stability and Major Payouts

Riot aims to reward team stability and sustainable growth. Open and creator-led rosters can keep their earned qualification points. They simply need to retain three of their five starting players.

The biggest change is guaranteed financial support for non-partner teams. These organizations will earn fixed payouts based entirely on competitive success.

  • Kickoff or Cup Qualification: $100,000 USD
  • Masters Qualification: $200,000 USD
  • Champions Qualification: $400,000 USD
  • Game Changers Championship Bonus: $100,000 USD

These payments are completely separate from standard prize pools and event travel stipends.

Looking Ahead

Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, highlighted the core vision behind these changes. The best teams must actively earn their spots at every stage. This new system rewards merit and expands global opportunities. Riot Games plans to reveal further details regarding slot allocations soon. Fans can expect these final updates just before VALORANT Champions begins.
