Earlier in the Day, Former World No.1 Naomi Osaka of Japan overcame one of her most challenging rivals in the Miami Open semifinals. Osaka outlasted No.22 seed Belinda Bencic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach her first Miami final.

- The 20-year old Polish World No.1 is in a prime form at the moment and is enjoying a 15-match unbeaten streak.
- She started the year by making two back-to-back semifinal appearances in Adelaide International and in the Australian Open.
- She then participated in the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she was ousted in the second round after losing to Jelena Ostapenko in a game that stretched to three sets.
- She however put that disappointment behind as she won the title in Qatar Open, which was her fourth career WTA Title.
- Swiatek then made a terrific run at Indian Wells and defeated sixth seed Maria Sakkari in straight sets to win her second consecutive title in 2022.
- At Miami, she is yet to drop a single set as she has completely dominated in all her games.
- She won against opponents like Viktorija Golubic, Maddison Brengle, Coco Gauff and Petra Kvitova to reach her third consecutive semi-finals.

- Meanwhile, America’s Jessica Pegula has had a contrasting year as she started the season with first round exits in Gippsland Trophy and Sydney International.
- She however had a good Australian Open by reaching the quarterfinals, where she faced straight set defeat against Ashleigh Barty.
- In the Dubai Tennis championships, she was ousted in the second round.
- At Qatar she faced finalist Maria Sakkari in the third round and lost in straight sets, before making a first round exit in the Indian Wells Masters.
- The 16th seed in the Miami Open defeated Sloane Stephens and Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the first two rounds.
- She was then given a walkover in the next two rounds by Anhelina Kalinina and Paula Badosa as both the players retired mid-match.
Swiatek vs Pegula Head-to-Head: Both the players played once before in the 2019 Washington Open, where Jessica Pegula defeated Swiatek 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.Swiatek being the higher-ranked player will now look to avenge the defeat and equal the head-to-head record.

Their last meeting happened three years ago and Swiatek is a completely different player this time. “I want to use the confidence that I built since the beginning of Doha,” Swiatek said. “I think I’m on a roll and I want to use that. Having that kind of streak got pretty tricky, but I’m pretty glad that I could play well, that I’m healthy,”
Swiatek certainly enters the game as favourite. But Pegula enters the game as a much fresher player as she faced a walkover in the last two matches. She must look to make the most out of it.
