Longest win streak in the History of Australian Open in Men’s Singles

Djokovic made it to the final after sailing past USA’s Tommy Paul in straight sets. The 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 win is his third successive victory in straight sets in the tournament. With his win, he has now won 27 matches on the trot in the Melbourne major. With this, he has surpassed Andre Agassi’s tally of 26 successive wins in the tournament.
Agassi maintained the streak from 2000 to 2004. He won the titles at the Melbourne Major in 2000, 2001 and 2003. He was unable to participate in the 2002 edition due to a wrist injury. His 26-match win streak came to an end when he lost in the semifinal against Marat Safin in 2004.
Djokovic’s streak began in 2019. He went on to win three successive titles at Melbourne Park in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He was unable to participate in the Grand Slam event last year as he was deported from the country following his non-vaccination stance. He has made a terrific comeback to Melboure Park this year and is gunning to win his fourth successive title.
Djokovic is also a win away from the 22nd Grand Slam title of his career. If he wins the title, he would tie Rafael Nadal for the all-time men’s record. Standing between Djokovic and the title will be Stefanos Tsitsipas, who battled past Karen Khachanov in the first semifinal of the day.
