- 23-year old Elena Rybakina started the year by reaching the final at Adelaide International, where she finished as runner-up. She then faced second round exit at the Australian Open.
- She also reached the quarterfinal at the Indian Wells Masters, where she faced straight set defeat against Maria Sakkari.
- She failed to go past the third round on clay before the French Open and also faced third round exit at the Clay Court major.
- She then began the Gray Court season with a second round exit at Libema Open and the crashed out from the first round at Eastbourne International.
- She however showed terrific form at the Wimbledon and won her maiden grand slam title by defeating Ons Jabeur in the final.
- After Wimbledon, she bowed out from the first round at the Silicon Valley Classic, second round at the Canadian Open.
- At the Cincinnati Masters she made it to the quarterfinal and lost to Madison Keys in straight sets.
- She suffered a shock firts round defeat at the US Open by losing against Clara Burel in straight sets.
- She finished as runner up at Japan Open nd at the Ostrava Open, she made it to the semifinals, but lost in three sets to eventual champion Barbara Krejcikova.
- She is now beginning her campaign by facing former Wimbledon Champion Garbine Muguruza in the first round of the San Diego Open.
- Garbine Muguruza started the year with a quarterfinal appearance at the Sydney International.
