In the absence of regular captain Kane Williamson who wasn’t available due to the ongoing 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Tom Latham led the side against Sussex in the first warm-up match which ended in a draw.
In the first innings of the warm-up match against Sussex, Latham and his opening partner Will Young, as well as top-order batsmen Michael Bracewell and Tom Blundell, all scored half-centuries, while Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy, Colin de Grandhomme and Ajaz Patel took two wickets for the Kiwis.
The performances will instil confidence in the New Zealand batters ahead of the crucial World Test Championships series against England.
