Into the second half and Scott McTominay was at the centre of controversy when Leicester’s players thought his tackle on James Maddison was worthy of a red card. Luckily for the United man, he escaped with just a booking.

The deadlock was finally broken just after the hour mark, when Kelechi Iheanacho headed home for Leicester from a superb Barnes cross. Their lead didn’t last long, however, with Fred soon equalising for United by firing home the rebound after Schmeichel’s save to deny Fernandes.

Leicester went close to taking the lead again when Iheanacho scooped over, before Wesley Fofana was denied by a stunning save from David de Gea to tip a header around the post. The next big chance again fell to Leicester and this time it was taken, when Iheancho worked the ball through to Maddison to smash in at the near post.

But after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed for an Iheanacho foul on Raphael Varane in the build-up. United had a late penalty appeal of their own turned down and the match ended in a draw, leaving Ralf Rangnick’s side sixth in the table and Leicester in ninth.
