Notably, Bumrah has been out of the Indian team since October 2022. The pacer first complained of a lower back issue in August, which ruled him out of the Asia Cup 2022. Bumrah then returned for T20Is against Australia in September but his injury resurfaced. The 29-year-old was included in the squad for the home series against Sri Lanka but was later ruled out after his injury resurfaced at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The 29-year-old then underwent successful surgery on his lower back in New Zealand during the second week of April. Bumrah was advised to rest for six weeks and now it seems the pacer is back to training.
