The PKL auction 2023 has been nothing short of extraordinary. On one hand, some stars from the previous years received record-breaking bids, while on the other, the veteran of the Pro Kabaddi did not even get bids. This contrast just goes on to show that the league has moved over its first batch of superstar players. Though unfortunate, this is how the newer players will get chances.
Monu Goyat
2018 Pro Kabaddi’s superstar buy, Monu Goyat was unsold at the PKL auction 2023. Back in 2018, he became the first player from the league to invite a bid over INR 1 Cr. He was sold to the Haryana Steelers for a jaw-dropping amount of 1.51 Cr. He garnered 164 points that year, but returns significantly came down in 2019. Last year, he could only score 30 points for Telugu Titans.
Rohit Kumar
Rohit Kumar has gone unsold for the second successive season. The former PKL champion went unsold last year but he was later added to the Gujarat Giants squad as a replacement player. He began his career in 2016 for Patna Pirates and went on to add more than 100 raid points in the his first two seasons. He later went on to become one of the star raiders for Bengaluru Bulls and heled the team win the title in 2018. But since 2019 his performance diminished rapidly and he has been dumped by all teams.
Surender Nada
The famed left corner specialist Surender Nada went unsold at the PKL auction, after an ordinary season with Bengal Warriors last year. He scored only 11 points from 10 matches, which came as a shocker to everyone. Overall, he is one of the most successful defenders in the league, with over 300 tackle points to his name.
Deepak Hooda
The former India skipper Deepak Hooda too, did not manage to attract any bidders. Despite his strong credentials, younger players were preferred in his place. His best season came in 2018, with the Jaipur Pink Panthers, where he scored a massive 208 points. Last year, in 17 matches, he got only 56 points.
