Harsha Bhogle reckons Chennai Super Kings have thrust MS Dhoni with a new role, asking him to guide the franchise into a new era before hanging his boots. MS Dhoni is expected to be retained by CSK and will continue as captain having led the team to their fourth championship in October. While the former Indian captain is not the same force as he was, he still retains his brilliant leadership skills, which will be key for the franchise.
Harsha Bhogle termed CSK as a family-like franchise and believes MS Dhoni will stay on for another year, helping set the team culture with the new squad before hanging up his boots. MS Dhoni however is unlikely to take the highest slab in the retention category. As per IPL 2022 retention rules, the first retention pick gets a whopping Rs 16 Cr, but Dhoni will opt against it, to help CSK allot their funds better. As per ESPNCricinfo, the CSK captain would rather see other budding players fetching a good amount of money, with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran in the mix for the other three retention spots.
