Here we bring to you a list of 10 players who went unsold during the mega auctions
1: Suresh Raina
Nicknamed as Mr. IPL, Raina went unsold during the two-day mega auction. The southpaw who last year played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to get a bid from the franchise. CSK brought back Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, and Robin Uthappa, but did show interest in getting Raina back. His last year’s low returns could be one of the factors.
The southpaw played 12 matches and only scored 160 runs at an average of 17.77. It was sad to see Raina going out like this. Nonetheless, he finishes his IPL career with 5528 runs.

2: Steve Smith
Former Australia captain Steve Smith also did not get any bids. Last season he played for Delhi Capitals and failed to impress in the limited opportunities he got. He played 8 matches and scored 152 runs. The fact that Australian players won’t be available due to international commitments could be one of the factors.
Another could be his low strike rate of mid 120s and his indifferent form. Once an IPL captain and leading batter for Rajasthan Royals, the right-hand batter now finds it difficult to get even one bid.

3: Imran Tahir
Former South Africa leg spinner Imran Tahir also went unsold during the mega auctions. He only got to play one match for CSK in IPL 2021. He also played only three games in the 2020 season. Age is one of the main factors that is going against the 40-year-old. During the mega auction also it came back to haunt him as he failed to get bids from 10 franchises.
This year’s snub from IPL auctions might be the end of the leg spinner. Overall he has played 59 matches and has picked up 82 wickets.

4: Shakib Al Hasan
Fans expressed huge shock when talismanic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan went unsold during the mega auctions. Ranked number in the ICC all-rounder’s rankings, the southpaw still failed to attract interest among franchises. Bangladesh players’ availability during the latter stages was IPL 2022 was one of the main reasons.
The other reason was Shakib’s average performance for KKR during the IPL 2021. He scored 47 runs in eight matches and only picked up 4 wickets. The southpaw might have played his last IPL game for KKR in 2021.

5: Piyush Chawla
Former India leg spinner Piyush Chawla also failed to attract bids from the 10 franchises. Once a regular member on the KKR side during the 2012 and 2014 editions, the leg spinner went unsold this time. Age plus his lack of opportunities in CSK during IPL 2021 might be one of the reasons why he might have been overlooked.
Chawla is not getting younger also and he hardly plays much cricket in the domestic circuit. With the latest snub, the leg spinner’s IPL career might have been over.
6: Kedar Jadhav
Former CSK batter Kedar Jadhav also went unsold during the mega auctions. He had set himself a base price of 2 crores which was a bit too pricey considering his current form. His performance for SRH in IPL 2021 was not great either. He scored only 55 runs in six matches he played. He failed to finish matches for his team.
Worst Jadhav also did not get off the blokes quickly. The right batter’s performance also did not perform well for Maharashtra during the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

7: Amit Mishra
Former India leg spinner Amit Mishra also went unsold during the mega auctions. The veteran last played for the Capitals in the 2021 IPL season. He picked six wickets in four games but later did not enough chances due to Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel’s presence in the team. Mishra’s remarkable IPL and experience record also could not save him from getting bids.
He has picked 166 wickets in 154 matches and is currently the second among the leading wicket-takers list in IPL.

8: Ishant Sharma
India’s Test specialist Ishant Sharma too went unsold. His lack of form in red-ball cricket, coupled with his low returns for Capitals last season might be one of the reasons for the snub. Once a smart operator in power play and death overs, the right-arm pacer was not amongst wickets for DC for a couple of seasons.
He only picked 14 wickets in 17 IPL games since 2019. Clearly, this record plus young pacers emerging has signaled his end of IPL journey.

9: Andrew Tye
Australian pacer Andrew Tye is one of the best bowlers for Perth Scorchers in BBL, but that was not enough to get him a bid in IPL mega auctions. Tye, who set himself a base price of 1.50 crores will not play IPL 2022. He was last year brought by Rajasthan Royals, but he pulled out last minute citing bio-bubble fatigue.

He has played only 27 IPL games and has picked up 40 wickets. It will be difficult for the Australian pacer to get into IPL teams due to his age also.
10: Saurabh Tiwary
Former Mumbai Indians batter Saurabh Tiwary too went until. The explosive batter was a regular in IPL 2020 season, but Ishan Kishan’s emergence meant Tiwary had to wait for the opportunities. Add to that the southpaw has also failed to finish games in the chances he got for Mumbai. He is currently 32 years and with a plethora of young talent emerging Tiwary might not play in the coming seasons of IPL.
