Indonesia Masters LIVE: Prannoy stuns Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen, will play Srikanth for place in Semifinals: Follow LIVE Updates

Prannoy beats Olympic Champion: Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen was up for a surprise on Thursday evening in Indonesia as Prannoy despite losing the first game, cameback strongly to defeat the 2017 World & Tokyo Olympic Champion.

Prannoy lost the 1st game 14-21. But was at his attacking best in 2nd and 3rd as he smashed out Axelsen from the tournament by winning the next 2 – 21-19, 21-16.

The Danish player was the star attraction of the competition at the BWF Super 750 event and had never lost to Prannoy in the last 5 meetings between the two.



Indonesia Masters LIVE: PV Sindhu also through to Quarterfinals, Lakshya Sen bows out.

Meanwhile, PV Sindhu had to sweat it out but eventually clinched a thrilling win over her little-known Spanish opponent Clara Azurmendi to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters.

Sindhu who has got great draw at Indonesian masters will now take on Turkey’s Neslihan YIGIT for a place in Last 4. 

Another big performance on the day came from former World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth. India’s No. 1 singles player defeated Jonathan Christie of Indonesia in the last 16 clash. 

While Lakshya Sen went down fighting to World No. 1 Kento Momota

Kidambi Srikanth stuns Jonathan Christie 13-21, 21-18, 21-15: Continuing from his good show in Germany, Srikanth stunned 6th seed Jonathan Christie to enter quarterfinals in Indonesia. Srikanth lost the 1st game 13-21 but came back to strongly to surprise Asian Champion from Indonesia. Srikanth will now play the winner of HS Prannoy vs Viktor Axelsen for place in the Semis.

 

Lakshya lose to Momota 12-21, 19-21: It was 1st time that 20 year old Lakshya Sen was playing World No. 1 Kento Momota of Japan. In the 1st game, Lakshya could not match the pace and accuracy of Japanese but 2nd game turned out to be humdinger. Lakshya at one point of time was leading 16-10 but Momota overcame the deficit to beat the Indian 21-19.
