India beat England in 1st ODI by 66 runs, as debutant Prasidh Krishna & Krunal Pandya shines: Debutant fast bowler Prasidh Krishna picked 4 wickets as India bowled out England for 251 runs after setting challenging total of 318 runs to win. Other than Prasidh, Shardul Thakur ferry tale in international cricket continued as he picked 3 wickets for 37 runs.

Prasidh Krishna is the first Indian bowler to take four (or more) wickets on ODI debut.

Prasidh Krishna (8.1-1-54-4 on debut):It didn’t start off well, and they came hard at us because we bowled poorly, but we had belief. We picked wickets in a cluster and that helped us a lot”

India beat England in 1st ODI by 66 runs: Earlier England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow provided England a cracking start. They dominated the Indian bowlers in the first 14 overs and added 135 for the 1st wicket. While Roy departed for 46, Bairstow smashed 94. Once the duo was dismissed, it was Indian bowlers all the way with no resistance coming in from any of the visiting batsman.

Ind beat Eng in 1st ODI: KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Krunal Pandya, Virat Kohli hit 50’s

Earlier, KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya helped India cross the 300-run mark in the first ODI at MCA Stadium, Pune. While Krunal slammed an unbeaten fifty on debut, KL Rahul came back to form and chipped in with his half-century.

The duo added 111 of their 112 runs in the last nine overs as they sent the English bowlers on a leather hunt. The 57-ball partnership saw the Indians switch gears and take the driver’s seat on a day.  Making his debut, Krunal did now show any nerves and he smashed boundaries consistently to help India rocket along in the final overs. The left-hander also registered a half-century in his first ODI and he created the record for the fastest fifty scored by a debutant in ODI cricket — 26 balls.

Shikhar Dhawan slammed 98 while India skipper Kohli also scored a fifty. Both Kohli and Dhawan put on 105 runs for the second wicket, and it also saw Kohli going past his 50. But in trying to accelerate further, skipper Kohli (56) ended up giving his wicket away to Mark Wood, reducing hosts to 169/2 in the 33rd over. Shreyas Iyer, who came out to bat at number four, was not able to impress with the bat and he departed after scoring just six runs.

Ben Stokes and Mark Wood picked 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, England suffered twin injuries while fielding — Sam Billings sprained his collar bone joint and Eoin Morgan split the webbing between his right thumb and index finger and had four stitches.

Earlier, all-rounder Krunal Pandya and pacer Prasidh Krishna were handed ODI debuts. While Kohli and Co would like to continue their winning streak in the series, Eoin Morgan-led Three Lions would want to return to winning ways as their ICC Rankings will be at stake. In the 1st ODI, Morgan won the toss and sent India to bat first.
