Pepe has one more year left on his one-year, £140,000-per-week Emirates contract, and no interested parties have made any proposals. Nice, who are controlled by Manchester United bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have hinted that they would be open to bringing in Pepe this summer on a permanent basis. But, there has been no indication that they are willing to pay a transfer price for the midfielder who joined Arsenal from Lille in 2019 and quickly became the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Pepe has made it obvious that he does not see a future in North London after losing out to Bukayo Saka in the starting lineup and that he has not played a Premier League game for the Arsenal since October 2021. But, his current salary is considered as a barrier to any future move, and Arsenal is all but resigned to having to foot at least some of the bill for the £7 million he is still owed under his contract.

Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alex Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Sead Kolasinac, Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, and David Luiz are just a few of the players who have left the club without paying a fee since Arteta became the manager of Arsenal in December 2019.

Pepe, though, might not be the only player that Arsenal gives away this summer as there are a number of other out-on-loan players who are not expected to return to the team. They are willing to consider offers for Alex Runarsson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares, Pablo Mari, and Cedric Soares, but they are aware that only a few players on that list are likely to draw sizable offers.

Kieran Tierney, Rob Holding, and Folarin Balogun’s long-term prospects are also questionable as Arteta gears up for another summer of upgrades to get his team ready for a return to the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.
