The defending champions didn’t drop a single game as Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Men’s doubles duo Chirag-Rankireddy, Women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand and Mixed Doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Sumeeth Reddy clinched comfortable victories against Pakistan.

Match 1: Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and  Ashwini Ponnapa VS Sachin Dias and Thilini Hendahewa in the first clash which is a  mixed doubles match: India WINS GAME 2-0 (21-14, 21-9)

Sri Lanka meanhwile have a seven member squad led by men’s singles player Niluka Karunaratne. With India scheduled to play two matches on the day, PV Sindhu might be rested from this contest against Sri Lanka. In Sindhu’s place Aakarshi Kashyap is expected to feature in the Women’s Singles. Whoever represents India in this tie, they will be facing Suhasni Vidanage in the contest. Meanwhile in the men’s Singles it remains to be seen whether Lakshya Sen replaces Kidambi Srikanth in the contest. Lakshya Sen was rested from the tie against Pakistan and he might be give  a go ahead against Sri Lanka. Niluka Krunaratne, who is ranked 131 in the world will be their opponent.

In Doubles India has World No.8 men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and also the fast-rising Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand in women’s doubles. They will also enter the upcoming contest against Sri Lanka as the favourites.

What is the format of the Mixed Team event? 

In the mixed team event, each tie will consist of five matches with one match each in Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed doubles will be played. Even if a team wins the first three matches and clinches the tie, all the five games will have to be played in the group stage.

In the 2018 Games, both these teams faced each other and  India won the tie easily 5-0. A similar result is expected in the upcoming contest.
