Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin was clearly unhappy with the body language of the Indian players on Day 4 of IND vs SA 2nd Test. The visitors resumed play at 26/0 with 315-run lead, putting themselves firmly in the driver’s seat. While yet another series defeat at home looms for India, Ashwin pointed out that the body language of the Indian cricketers on the field told a different story and it is a sad one.
‘Indications on the field’
Taking to social media platform X, Ashwin shared a screengrab of captain Pant from the 1st session on Day 4 and remarked that while he really hopes India can bounce back, the body language of the players indicated that Team India had resigned to fate. What Ashwin is referring to was the unusually quite nature of an otherwise chirpy Pant behind the wickets in the first hour of play on Tuesday. There was hardly any cheers or motivating lines from the captain from behind the stumps and Bumrah and Siraj bowled on.
However, the mood of the Indian players was uplifted after Jadeja struck twice, providing the first couple of breakthroughs for the host. He first got rid of Ryan Rickleton for 35 runs and shortly after dismissed his opening partner Aiden Markram for 29 runs. Washington Sundar then joined the party as he sent Temba Bavuma packing as the SA skipper was caught out by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
However, South Africa managed to pull things back by Tea, with de Zorzi and Stubbs stitching together a 30-run partnership. Overall, SA managed to add 81 runs to their lead in the 1st session on Day 4 while India managed to get 3 wickets.
