Pat Cummins has provided an injury update ahead of the 5-match Ashes series and it doesn't sound like good news for Australia

Australia cricket team star Pat Cummins has said that he is likely to miss the Ashes 2025 opener against England. The all-rounder, who has a lumbar bone stress which was revealed via scans after the series against West Indies, is yet to start bowling in the nets. While Cummins hasn’t ruled out participating in the first Test or the entire series, he isn’t very sure of recovering completely in time for the clash which starts on November 21.

Will Cummins be fit in time for Ashes?

In a video posted by Cricket Australia, Cummins stated that four weeks time was pretty tight for him to recover fully adding that he has started running and pushing himself. The Australian skipper revealed that he was yet to start bowling in the nets, and that he was at least a couple of weeks away before he could do so. Pat acknowledged that it would be very tough for him to picture playing all five Tests in the Ashes at the moment, especially since he is taking it slow in terms of resuming bowling.

So four weeks is pretty tight, but I think somewhere around that mark. I’m running today and running kind of every second day, and each run is a little bit longer. [Then I] get into bowling prep next week. [It’s] probably a couple of weeks away before I’m actually putting on the spikes and bowling out on turf,” Cummins said.

Last week, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said that the team was optimistic on having Cummins for the 1st Test against England. Meanwhile, a report stated that he was set to miss the entire Ashes series after recent scans showed that he had a long way to go before recovering completely. The report claimed that if that was the case, then Steve Smith will lead the side in Pat’s absence.
