The wicket looked a bit sluggish to start with but Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma paired well to add 66 runs in 9 overs. Though they did not lose wickets in a cluster, but then the run rate was low throughout. If not for Harmanpreet Kaur’s blistering 56 from 27, India would have been 20 runs short. Perhaps the decision to not retire Jemimah Rodrigues, made the team pay.
Ellyse Perry-Ash Gardener stars of the day
Even though Perry and Gardener could not do much with the ball, they smashed fifties in 33 and 28 balls, respectively, to knock India out of the tournament. When the Indian bowlers applied pressure, they started dealing in boundaries, which deflated our confidence. In the end, India missed a genuine pacer who could take them forward in the match.
