Khaleel Ahmed has ended his stint with Essex County Cricket Club abruptly due to personal reasons. The left-arm fast bowler had joined Essex late last month for a deal to play in the County Championship and the One-Day Cup. However, after just two matches, Khaleel has returned home.
Khaleel Ahmed ends County stint early
The 27-year-old was to play 4 more first-class matches and the entire List A tournament for Essex as part of his 2-month deal. Khaleel was picked off the back of an impressive performance for India A against the England Lions but failed to impress.
In the 2 matches he played, Khaleel got 4 wickets at an average of 64.50. Things didn’t go as hoped for Khaleel or Essex during the matches, and now the pacer has to leave early.
“Essex Cricket can confirm that Khaleel Ahmed has made the decision to return home for personal reasons and will be ending his time with the Club. While we are disappointed to see him leave, we fully support Khaleel’s decision and are grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us. Everyone at Essex Cricket wishes Khaleel all the very best for the future,” Essex said in a statement.
Khaleel was one of the five Indian cricketers who were to play in the County Championship. Yuzvendra Chahal has been playing for Northamptonshire. Ruturaj Gaikwad was to join Yorkshire from July 22 until the end of the One-Day Cup, but he pulled out a few days before.
Ishan Kishan had signed a 2-match deal with Nottinghamshire, which has ended. And lastly, Tilak Varma played 3 matches for Hampshire in Division 2, scoring 2 hundreds and one fifty.
