Following India's 408-run defeat in the 2nd Test in Guwahati, Kumble pointed out where India had gone wrong in the series

Former India cricket team head coach Anil Kumble expressed serious concerns over the team after the 2-0 loss to South Africa in the IND vs SA 2nd Test. The Proteas ended a 25-year-long wait to clinch a series win against India in the sub-continent and a large part of it had to do with tactical blunders by the team management. Following India’s 408-run defeat in the 2nd Test in Guwahati, Kumble pointed out where India had gone wrong in the series which had led to such a disastrous result.

Speaking on JioHotstar after the end of IND vs SA 2nd Test, Kumble said that India need to have a change in mindset when it comes to Test cricket in order to move forward in the future. The former Indian coach pointed out that frequent changes in the playing XI, constant shuffling of the batting order costed India the series. Kumble opined that while India were scheduled to play their next Test series after a 10-month gap, it was imperative for the team to sit down and rethink their strategy.

It requires a different mindset when it comes to Test. You can’t really have so many all-rounders, chopping and changing, so many changes in the batting order, and so many changes in the team itself. Every second game, you have a new player coming in and a couple of guys get dropped. India need to sit down and ponder. You can’t forget these results. You need to have a discussion around how you want Indian Test cricket to go forward, because stalwarts have retired in the last 6-7 months,” Anil Kumble said.

In the 1st Test, India fielded six left-handed batters in the XI, the first time they had done so in history of Test cricket. The team also decided to slot Washington Sundar at number 3 while Sai Sudharsan was benched for the contest. In the next game, they decided to bring back Sai at number 3 while Sundar was once again demoted down the order.
