Team India won’t have a sponsor at the Asia Cup. Sanju Samson won’t play to accommodate Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli’s successor as India’s next superstar has been decided. Rohit Sharma could miss out on playing the 2027 ODI World Cup. Mitchell Starc has retired from T20Is. And Ravichandran Ashwin might play in the Big Bash League (BBL) soon.

India sponsor-less at Asia Cup
Team India will almost certainly travel to the Asia Cup without a title sponsor. The BCCI has started the process of finding a replacement for Dream11. The registration process will end by September 10; by then, Team India will have played the Asia Cup opener. The last date of submission of the bid documents is September 16, by which time the India vs Pakistan match would have happened.

Ashwin to play BBL 2025-26?
Ravichandran Ashwin could become the first international Indian player to play in the BBL. The recently IPL-retired player had signed up for the ILT20 auction and now showed interest in another franchise league. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg hopes Ashwin comes over, as it could help them in the Indian market.

Fitness not an issue for Rohit Sharma
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan thinks that fitness won’t affect Rohit Sharma from playing in the ODI World Cup 2027. However, he reckons that a lack of game time could be an issue. Since Rohit has retired from Tests and T20Is, he’ll only play in the IPL and ODIs, which aren’t common nowadays.

Starc retires before T20 World Cup
Mitchell Starc has retired from T20I cricket less than six months before the 2026 T20 World Cup. The left-arm pacer has decided to prioritise the longer formats. Starc wishes to play the Ashes 2025, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2026, and the ODI World Cup 2027.

Samson to make way for Gill
Because of Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson won’t be part of India’s Playing XI in the Asia Cup. That’s what Irfan Pathan thinks. He highlighted how Indian cricket always wants to find the next all-format captain. Gill has been earmarked as one and therefore, Samson will have to make way for the vice-captain.

Team India’s next superstar after Kohli
Robin Uthappa thinks Shubman Gill’s selection in the Asia Cup isn’t solely based on his ability. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma closer to retirement than ever, those in power want to make Gill the next superstar. He was already labelled as Kohli’s heir long back, and it seems that’s now coming true.
