For third year in a running, teams like CSK and SRH haven't been able to manage their injury count, which is derailing their IPL campaign, year on year.

Injuries are a big part of the IPL, and over the years, the concerns have only grown for the players participating, and also the franchises. IPL 2026 is a classic example, where Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have witnessed multiple injuries, that have just disturbed the balance of the team. In fact, holds true for both these teams since 2024 as well; 8 each till now.

Some of the players aggravated already existing conditions, some picked up injuries during the tournament, and some while playing matches. In fact, for that matter, Kolkata Knight Riders are not far behind, at least this year only, where they have lost the likes of Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, and also Mustafizur Rahman (withdrawn due to political reasons).

But looking at the larger picture, given the injuries in CSK and SRH camp, it is quite visible, why both these teams have found it difficult to win matches. Insidesport takes a look at all the injuries that have taken place in the IPL since 2024, and which teams have been worst-hit.

IPL injury full list since 2024

SRH’s injury conclusion

SRH in 2024: The team last made the playoffs in 2024, but then injuries have been an issue for them since then. Wanindu Hasaranga, a premier all-rounder from Sri Lanka was out of the tournament and Vijaykanth Viyaskanth was brought in.

The implication: Luckily for Hyderabad, they had their bases covered, where Hasaranga would have chipped in. Their pacers were brilliant — Cummins, Natarajan, Bhuvneshar Kumar bagging 48 wickets, while Mayank Markande — the leg spinner bagged 8 wickets. But perhaps the void of injured players was felt the most from 2025.

SRH in 2025: They lost out on the services of Brydon Carse and Adam Zampa. Not that both of them would have played together; it was Zampa’s absence that meant the team did not have a solid spinner throughout.

The implication: The spinner they mostly relied upon was, Zeeshan Ansari, who picked up 6 wickets in 10 matches, and averaged 55. In hindsight, Zampa could have fit in place of Kamindu Mendis, as their batting was already way too strong. Harsh Dubey came in late, but then, no one can overlook what he can do in this format. The 34-year-old has 413 wickets in 333 matches in the format at an economy of 7.48.

SRH in 2026: The Sunrisers bowling is falling like a pack of cards this year. Cummins, of course has not started playing, which is already putting a lot of pressure on the inexperienced line up. To add to their misery, Jack Edwards, Brydon Carse and David Payne, who was a replacement himself, have succumbed to injuries.

The implication: Let us be fair.. their poor performance has got to do more with Cummins’ absence, than anyone else. Though it seems that he will be available from next match onwards, but the damage has already been done. They are lagging behind, and the bowlers other are just bad. The economy rates are going through the roof – Eshan Malinga 9.82, Shivang Kumar 8.33, Nitish Kumar Reddy 9, Jaydev Unadkat 10.90, Praful Hinge 12.57, Payne 14.00.

CSK’s injury conclusion

CSK in 2024: In 2024, Pathirana was their main strike bowler who played only 6 matches, to bag 13 wickets. Thereafter, their attack suffered greatly. That wasn’t the only injury in their camp, and also lost Devon Conway and Mustafizur Rahman.

The implication: Fiz had picked up 14 wickets in 9 matches, had to leave midway, putting the side in a lurch; eventually the team finished fifth and could not qualify for the playoffs. Conway, on the other hand, had 670 runs in 2023, and missed the entire season next year. Rachin Ravindra, their opener that year was poor with an average of 22.

CSK in 2025: In 2025, losing skipper Gaikwad was the last thing they wanted. He was injured just after 5 matches. Other than that, Gurjapneet Singh and Vansh Bedi were out as well.

The implication: MS Dhoni had to lead the team thereafter. There was no stability in batting. As a result, they finished last in the points table. Shivam Dube, who batted at No. 6/7 was their best batter in the year with 357 runs at an average of 32.45. Jadeja, followed with 301 runs at an average of 33. Ayush Mhatre, who was roped in later, was their best top order batter, scoring 240 in 7 games.

CSK in 2026: MS Dhoni isn’t playing for them at the moment, and no one knows, when he will. Nathan Ellis, one of their best bets in the bowling department, withdrew before the start, while Khaleel Ahmed is out after five matches and two wickets.

The implication: Though Anshul Kamboj & Jamie Overton have risen to the challenge, but still the bowling attack is quite brittle. Even Kamboj, who is the purple cap holder, has leaked runs at 9.73. Overton isn’t far behind with 9.53/over. And they are languishing at no. 8 in points table.

KKR deserves special mention

KKR in 2026: Call it bad luck, but KKR are on the back foot. First, Harshit Rana was ruled out, then Akash Deep, Mustfiz was withdrawn, and Matheesha Pathirana has still not played a game.

The implication: What do you say about a team, who are last on the points table, without a win. Vaibhav Arora has been their best bowler so far, whose economy has been 11.35. Kartik Tyagi has leaked runs at over 10 in over. That pretty much sums up their campaign.
