Team India’s Test returns have been shockingly bad over the last year or so. First, they were whitewashed in the home series vs New Zealand, and this year vs South Africa. This has only extended a period, which was never supposed to come. Nonetheless, there were some calls of the removal of coach Gautam Gambhir, at least from the Test side.
Gautam Gambhir to stay India Test coach
There were a few media reports, that suggested, VVS Laxman was approached for the job too. But then as it turns out, they were all false. As per a fresh report in ANI now, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has made it clear, that no such change is happening. Gautam Gambhir is not being removed as the Test coach.
“I want to make it very clear regarding the speculation circulating in the media about head coach Gautam Gambhir. The BCCI secretary (Devajit Saikia) has also made it very clear that there is no plan to remove Gambhir or bring in a new head coach for India,” Shukla told ANI.
Earlier, Devajit Saikia had taken a similar line and said, “This is totally incorrect news going on. This is totally speculative news. Some very reputed news agencies are also flashing the news. There is no truth to it. BCCI straight away denies. People can think all they want, but BCCI has not taken any steps. This is somebody’s figment of imagination; there is no truth in it, and I cannot say anything except that this is factually incorrect and baseless news.”
