Ahead of India's Tests at home against WI and SA, a former Indian star has urged the BCCI to prepare good, sporting tracks

Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take a leaf out of ECB’s book while preparing pitches for the Test series against West Indies and South Africa. 6736 runs were scored by the batters and 172 wickets were picked by both teams from 1860.4 overs in the recently concluded IND vs ENG Test series. Ahead of India’s next Test assignment at home, Vengsarkar fired a warning to the BCCI over what sort of pitches need to be prepared.

Vengsarkar’s warning to BCCI and Team India

As per Mumbai Mirror, Vengsarkar urged the BCCI to prepare good, sporting tracks for the Tests against West Indies and South Africa. Shubman Gill and co. will first take on WI in a two-match Test series starting from October 2 followed by a similar series against the Proteas from November 14. The former Indian cricketer warned the BCCI to not pander to the short-sightedness of captains and coaches while preparing pitches.

I hope India does the same in the upcoming international season and produce good, sporting wickets for the Test matches. The BCCI must not pander to the short-sightedness of captains and coaches, who are only looking for short term gains by winning matches and qualifying for the WTC final,” Vengsarkar said.

The Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad and the Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi will host the IND vs WI 1st and 2nd Test respectively. Meanwhile, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and Guwahati’s Barsapara stadium will host the IND vs SA 1st and 2nd Tests.

Following the conclusion of the IND vs ENG Test series, the ICC rated the surface used for IND vs ENG 1st Test at Headingley, Leeds as ‘good’ while rest of the surfaces have been deemed just ‘satisfactory’. Embarking from the trend of favouring bowlers, the pitches in England heavily favoured the batters in the IND vs ENG series.
