Amelia Kerr clinches Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year

ICC has announced the winner of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024.

New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr has been honored with the prestigious Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy as the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, with the announcement made on Tuesday.

Kerr played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup triumph, showcasing exceptional performances throughout the tournament. Notably, she becomes the first Kiwi cricketer to receive this coveted award, adding another milestone to her remarkable career.

Kerr was humbled by the recognition and stated that individual awards aren’t the reason she plays cricket, but receiving one is indeed a special feeling.

Amelia Kerr said, “It’s a huge honour to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. I guess for me individual awards aren’t something you think about much, but this is an extremely special one.

“It’s nice to be able to contribute for New Zealand, I guess that’s all any cricketer wants is to work hard and put out performances for their teammates. There are so many people that have helped me achieve what I have, and I’m very grateful for the support network I have around me.”

Amelia Kerr performance in 2024

Amelia Kerr’s brilliance in 2024 was unmatched, particularly during New Zealand’s T20 World Cup triumph. She scored 387 T20I runs and took 29 wickets, including a record 15 wickets in the World Cup. In the final, Kerr scored 43 and claimed 3/24, securing a 32-run victory against South Africa and earning Player of the Tournament honors. Additionally, she excelled in ODIs, tallying 264 runs and 14 wickets. Kerr edged past Laura Wolvaardt, Chamari Athapaththu, and Annabel Sutherland to clinch the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award.
