Tim David missed the last stage of the IPL 2025 season for RCB with a hamstring injury.

The 2026 T20 World Cup is around the corner. As teams prepare for the ICC event, Australia might sweat over Tim David’s fitness and availability. The hard-hitting batter has injured himself during the Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes match in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26.

Playing his fourth match for the Hurricanes, David has seemingly suffered a hamstring injury. While chasing 151 against the Scorchers at the Perth Stadium, the Hurricanes were 101/4 in 14 overs. David was leading the charge, batting on 41 (26).

In the next over, while taking an easy single, David hurt himself. The batter had informed the umpire that it was his hamstring that he was struggling with. Although struggling, he continued. But just one ball later, the physio came out, and David walked back to the pavillion.

“If Tim David’s done his hamstring here, that’s probably the biggest blow to the tournament for any team,” a commentator said live on air.

T20 World Cup & IPL trouble

This could have serious implications for Australia and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The reigning Indian Premier League (IPL) champions had missed David in the IPL 2025 playoffs due to the same injury. And it could once again come to haunt them.

If David has indeed suffered a hamstring injury, David could be out for 3 weeks to over 3 months. If it’s a Grade 1 (mild) issue, he might need about 3 weeks to recover. But it could take from 1 to 2 months if it’s a Grade 2 (moderate) niggle, and if it’s a Grade 3 (severe tear/rupture) hamstring niggle, he could be out for 3 or more months.

This means David might be out of the T20 World Cup, and missing the early stages of the IPL 2026 season could be a possibility.
