Abhishek Shama has managed to retain his position at number 1 in the ICC rankings for batters in T20Is despite performing below average in the T20 World Cup 2026. Apart from registering 3 consecutive ducks, the Punjab batter registered just two 50+ plus scores in the maruqee event – one which came against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 clash and the other in the final against New Zealand. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has jumped two places to be ranked 2nd while Varun Chakravarthy has been displaced as the number 1 ranked T20I bowler.
Abhishek Sharma still no.1 ranked T20I batter
Despite registering just 141 runs runs in the T20 World Cup 2026, Sharma has managed to retain his spot at the top of the rankings for batters in T20Is. He has a rating of 875 points. Kishan, who finished with 317 runs to his name from 9 innings, averaging 35.22 and boasting of a strike rate of 193.29, has jumped 2 spots to secure 2nd place in the rankings. Other Indians in the top ten include Tilak Varma (no.7) and captain Suryakumar Yadav (no.9). Player of the Tournament Sanju Samson has been ranked 22nd while Shivam Dube has been placed at 27th.
Varun Chakravarthy no longer no.1
Meanwhile, India’s mystery spinner Varun is no longer the number 1 ranked bowler in T20Is and has been replaced by Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan. The Tamil Nadu spinner finished as the joint-highest wicket taker in the tournament. However, there was a stellar difference in his performance in the group stage and the Super 8s and the knockouts. He managed to get 9 wickets in the group stage and was quite economical. However, over the course of next 5 matches, he only managed to add 5 more wickets to his tally
Rashid, who played lesser matches compared to the Indian spinner in the tournament, has overtaken him to occupy the top spot. Other significant movements in the rankings for bowlers include Adil Rashid moving to fourth and Jasprit Bumrah to 6th.
