The CSA issued a combined ITT (Intention to Bid) combining both South Africa matches and SAT20 matches after not receiving any positive response from Indian broadcasters. Following that, the new combined bid includes $240,000 per SAT20 league match.

CSA Media Rights: All you need to know
- The current broadcasting fee per South Africa home game against India is $1.5 million.
- CSA wants 6 times more than that in their next cycle.
- CSA values India tour matches at $7 million or Rs 57 crore.
- In comparison, BCCI gets $7.4 million or Rs 60 crore per match
- The newly-formed SAT20 league matches will cost Indian broadcasters $240,000.
- An entire season of SAT20 league will cost $8 million.
- For non-India matches, CSA has set a reserve price of $3 million or Rs 24 Cr.
- Previously, Indian broadcasters showed no interest when CSA released the ITT.
- CSA then combined the next cycle of media rights with SAT20 League matches.

However, the next India Tour of South Africa in 2023-24 will not be part of the new media rights. Star India which holds the current CSA Media Rights will pay as per the present agreement at $1.5 million. But it’s India Tour of 2030-31 that will cost the Indian broadcasters a bomb.

Out of 87 matches in South Africa’s Future Tours Programme, India will play a total of 21 games. Hence, Indian broadcasters could end up paying close to $400 million including license fee which is 5% per season.
“The 2023 Season the League will comprise 6 (six) Franchises or Teams based in cities across South Africa who will play in a league format that currently culminates each Season in play-off Matches to determine the winner of the League. With 6 (six) Franchises/ Teams, it is envisaged that the League will comprise 33 (thirty) Matches in the 2023 Season, moving to 34 (thirty) Matches in the 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 Seasons,” the CSA ITT document said.
However, the disadvantage is that it would be in a clash of schedules with the ILT20. Furthermore, South African prime time is late night in India, going well past 12. Tom Harrison, the former CEO of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has been appointed as a commercial consultant for the league as CSA look to find a solution. Having an Indian broadcaster is key to the survival of the new league, with the former Mzansi T20 League failing to find a deal.
