Tokyo olympics: Fraser-Pryce becomes second fastest woman in history; sends Olympic warning with record-time in 100m; Jamaican sprint star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce became the second fastest woman in history on Saturday, clocking a world-leading 10.63 seconds for the 100m at the Olympic Destiny meeting in Kingston.

The 34-year-old reigning and two-time Olympic 100m champion obliterated the field at the National Stadium to finish several metres clear of her closest rival.

Only late US sprinting star Florence Griffith-Joyner, who holds the world record of 10.49sec, has run faster.

Fraser-Pryce’s time smashed the previous 2021 world-leading time of 10.72sec set by Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States in March.

Freestyle wrestler Sumit Malik (125kg category) failing a dope test has come as a double whammy for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) ahead of Tokyo Olympics. Not only India lost a quota for the event but will also pay a hefty fine for the failed dope test. Malik failed an in-competition test that was conducted at Sofia, Bulgaria last month after he secured the Olympics quota winning a gold medal.

However, now that the United World Wrestling (UWW) has slapped him with a provisional ban until December 2021 with his ‘B’ sample yet to be tested, the wrestler will not be able to take part in Tokyo Olympics. Apart from the lost quota, the WFI will also need to cough up Rs 16 lakh fine for the failed dope test. If the ‘B’ sample tests positive as well, the WFI will try to recover the penalty from Sumit Malik, failing which will lead to a life ban.
