Aged 56, Tyson doesn’t seem to hold any grudges for the later American musician. However, he honestly admitted to hating Michael Jackson at one point. Mike Tyson revealed it in his latest episode of HotBoxin podcast with Cheech and Chong.
Tyson knocked out Michael Spinks in the first round of their fight and was encouraged to go and meet Michael Jackson by his then-promoter Don King. However, ‘Kid Dynamite’ didn’t receive a proper response from MJ.
Recalling it, Mike Tyson said, “I’m with Don King. He [Jackson] goes like this [makes the peace sign] to Don King. So I go like this back [makes the peace sign]. Once I do it, he [Michael Jackson] sees me, he puts his hand down. That’s just it,”
Meanwhile, Mike Tyson claimed that he went to see Michael Jackson personally in the backstage but the ‘King of Pop’s reply vexed him.
Tyson said, “Excuse me, Mike, where do I know you from?’ You look familiar. Where do I know you from?”
“I said f*ck Michael Jackson.”
Mike Tyson was close to several US music legends
Although Michael Jackson wasn’t very familiar to Mike Tyson, several US musicians were. Late rapper Tupac Shakur was a huge fan of ‘Iron’ Mike. Unfortunately, he was shot dead after he was fresh out of a Mike Tyson fight. Meanwhile, Ice-Cube, 50 Cent, Eminem, and many more artists have been close to Tyson.
