Francis Ngannou has expressed interest in competing in a UFC trilogy vs Stipe Miocic while Jon Jones is out due to a torn pectoral muscle.

Following his outstanding October 28 boxing debut against Tyson Fury, supporters urged Ngannou to exert pressure on the UFC to challenge him for the lineal heavyweight championship by using his newfound ability to barter. “The Predator” is still the current lineal champion and has never lost the UFC heavyweight championship.

Francis Ngannou Shows Interest in a Trilogy Fight With Stipe Miocic While Waiting For Jon Jones Return

Ngannou was intrigued by this and shared in a post on October 29 how he would fight Stipe Miocic a third time as he waited for Jones to return:

Miocic was supposed to fight Jones on November 11, however, because of Jones’ injury, the fight had to be called off. The UFC is presently looking into possible dates for the fight rescheduling for 2024. Most people agree that the American-Croatian fighter is among the greatest heavyweight champions in UFC history, if not the greatest. With a total of six victories, he holds the record for most wins in title fights. He has won the title twice.

Ngannou would have to go through a few obstacles before he could take on Miocic or Jones.

Heavyweight bombs Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich are battling for the interim championship at UFC 295, and the winner will receive a title chance in their subsequent match, despite Ngannou’s newfound ability to barter. Furthermore, Aspinall claims that Miocic vs. Jones was expected to be a double retirement bout. It is unclear from this if Miocic or Jones would be prepared to take a chance on Ngannou.

Though it’s nuanced, money speaks volumes. Since Ngannou is now bound by a contract with the PFL, the event would probably be a co-promotion, an idea the UFC hasn’t investigated in mixed martial arts since its time with PRIDE FC. Even so, Ngannou is in the lead, and the UFC has to choose between conceding or proving they still have the best heavyweight champion.
