In a recent interview with Everything Boxing, he was blunt and said that Alvarez, the WBC champion since 2020, needed to sign for a fight with him or forfeit the title if he didn’t want to.

For the story of the tape, Benavidez stands 6’2″, while Alvarez is 5’8″ and has a reach of 74.5 inches as opposed to Alvarez’s 70.5 inches. From 160 to 168 pounds, Alvarez is 7-0 with four knockouts, including a victory over Plant in the eleventh round in November 2021.

Other opponents probable for David Benavidez

  • Jermall Charlo

Longtime rivals Jermall Charlo and Benavidez took the first step towards physical contact in April when they and their entourages fought while watching the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugás welterweight match from the stands.

Eight pounds lower on the middleweight scale than the current WBC champion, Charlo has expressed unhappiness over his struggle to obtain marquee matches at 160. He said that moving up to 168 could give him a better chance of staying relevant because of the existence of Abelardez and others.

  • David Morrell

After a lengthy amateur career in which he competed 132 times and won a youth world championship in 2016 while representing Cuba, David Morrell, who is only 25 years old, has only eight professional matches. But even in a short period, he has established some street cred.

He had only four victories to his credit when he went professional in Minneapolis in 2019 with a first-round knockout. The WBA’s second-tier “world” title—Llvarez now has the legitimate crown—came to him in 2021 after another first-round KO.
