The boxing match between Adrien Broner and Chris Howard at welterweight has been postponed till December 2 in Miami, Florida’s Casino Miami Jai Alai. Given the lack of interest in Broner vs. 16-year pro-Howard, the fight might be rescheduled numerous times without attracting much attention from the public.
Although it is regrettable that AB is using the archaic backdoor method to have a shot at the world title, it shows how far his career has fallen. At 140 pounds, Broner is attempting to earn a championship shot, and if he succeeds, he might later have the opportunity to challenge WBC champion Regis Prograis. Although Broner and Prograis, both 34, will be ridiculed if they engage in combat, Prograis has long desired this matchup.

It’s strange that Broner has chosen to fight the unknown Howard (18-2-1, 8 KOs), as a victory over him won’t further his career in any way. At 147 pounds, Broner should be facing well-known top-15 competitors, but doing so would be perilous because he is untested against any elite opponent. If the match goes ahead as scheduled, it will be Broner’s third fight in the previous four years, and most fans have largely forgotten about him.
After years of inactivity and loss in his greatest battles, Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs), 34, is attempting to revive his waning career. At welterweight, AB is ranked #15 by the WBC, and he needs some convincing victories to be considered for a title opportunity at 147 or 140.
After two years of inactivity, the former four-division world champion Broner returned in June of last year and defeated William Hutchinson. Hutchinson is not a well-known boxer, but he was dredged up for Broner’s battle despite the fact that few followers of the sport were familiar with him.
The choice of opponent for Broner demonstrated just how far he had fallen. Broner lost to Marcos Maidana in 2013, and it’s hard to think that just ten years prior, he was one of the most well-known athletes in the sport. It’s unlikely that Broner’s career collapse was caused by the loss.
More often than not, Broner makes a lot of money and overindulges outside of the ring.
