For a fight against Ryan Garcia, Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs), a former four-division world champion, claims that "I don't need a tune-up."

Adrien Broner claims he recently learned of an offer to fight Ryan Garcia and wants him to know that following his impressive victory over Oscar Duarte in Houston, Texas on December 2, he will be prepared to take on Garcia.

Though it’s thought Oscar De La Hoya put his feelers out for this fight months ago, it’s unknown why the former superstar Broner is only now learning of Golden Boy Promotions’ interest in employing him as Ryan’s opponent.

Adrien Broner Agrees To Fight Ryan Garcia

The fact that Ryan and his promoter would fight Broner—who many believe is finished after a lengthy 15-year career—would be a sign of insecurity. For a fight against Ryan Garcia, Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs), a former four-division world champion, claims that “I don’t need a tune-up.”

“I’m the same person that fought Manny Pacquiao,” Broner said. This is not good news, since AB looked terrible in that fight and lost to the then-40-year-old Filipino superstar by unanimous decision after twelve rounds.

It’s unclear if De La Hoya still plans to use Broner to oppose the 25-year-old Ryan on Super Bowl weekend in February 2024. If Ryan Kingry prevails over Oscar Duarte (26-1, 21 KOs) on DAZN at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on December 2, 2024, Oscar has shown interest in putting Ryan Garcia against Teofimo Lopez, the WBO light welterweight champion, or Devin Haney.

Garcia recently asked Gervonta Davis for a rematch on social media, and if he can obtain one, it would be the best course of action for the well-liked prospect. Ryan wouldn’t be able to earn the same amount of money from a rematch with Tank Davis as he would from facing Haney or Teofimo.

Ryan’s battle with Broner would be less competitive than his bout with obscure lightweight contender Duarte. Given that he fights every two years, it makes sense that Broner hasn’t looked as good in his previous two fights following the defeat to Pacquiao. When a fighter takes a full year off between fights, like Broner has done, it becomes challenging to remain at peak performance.

Given his advanced age and the lack of stronger offers at this point in his career, it makes sense for the 34-year-old Broner to accept the fight against Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) if he can secure it. With promoter Don King’s assistance, Broner has been reviving his career and has recently defeated Bill Hutchinson and Jovanie Santiago twice.
