Badminton governing body BWF has increased the prize money for the upcoming BWF World Tour Finals. This makes the richest Badminton tournament in the world much richer. The year-end final will take place in Hangzhou, China from December 13 to 17 this year.

BWF on Wednesday increased the prize pot of the tournament to USD 11.5 Million Dollars for the next four years till 2026. The prize money for this year and next year’s edition will be 2.5 million dollars. It will increase to 3 million in 2025 and subsequently to 3.5 million in 2026.

Speaking about the increase in prize money, Thomas Lund, Secretary General of BWF said, “This represents an overall greater commitment to our players and contributes to an enhanced world-class sports product that we seek.”

The Top 8 players or pairs in all the five disciplines in the sport will qualify for the year-end BWF World Tour finals. This year’s finalists will be confirmed following the China Masters that will conclude on 26th November.

None of the Indians find themselves within the Top 8 across all disciplines so far. World No.5 Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are at the 13th spot currently in World Tour finals rankings and are in contention.
