16-year-old Unnati Hooda shows why she could be PV Sindhu’s successor – Check Reason

Unnati Hooda has one again shown why she is leading the list of possible candidates to take the baton from Sindhu in a few years from now.

While the hunt for PV Sindu’s successor is still on, the Abu Dhabi Masters on Sunday saw two young Indian shuttlers battling for the Women’s Singles title. 16-year old Unnati Hooda finally emerged triumphtant by defeating compatriot Samia Farooqi to win the BWF Super 1000 title on the day.

Teenager Unnati Hooda defeated 20-year old Farooqi 21-16, 22-20 in just 40 minutes. With the win, the prodigious Hooda has one again shown why she is leading the list of possible candidates to take the baton from Sindhu in a few years.

Unnati Hooda wins career’s second BWF Super 100 title

The Abu Dhabi Masters title is the young Indian’s second BWF Super 100 title. Last year, she became the youngest Indian to win a BWF Title by becoming the Odisha Open champion as a 14-year old.

On Sunday at the Abu Dhabi final, Unnati Hooda led by four points in the first game at the mid-game interval. Farooqi came close and reduced the deficit to one point. Hooda however won the next five points to seal the first game.

In the second game, Farooqi gave atough fight. She led the game 13-7 at one stage. Hooda gradually managed to claw her way back and levelled the score 18-18. She went on to save two game points to seal the triumph.

Ashwini Ponnappa & Tanisha Crasto win title

Meanwhile, India’s Women’s Doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto won their first BWF title as a pair. They defeated Denmark’s Julie Finne-Ipsen and Mai Surrow 21-16, 16-21, 21-8.

Earlier the duo had won a title in the International Series. They won their first-ever title as a pair at the Nantes International Challenge.
