The conditions have been ideal for England as they prepare for the 1st Ashes Test at the Gabba. While the venue has been a happy ground for the Aussies, they return to the ground having suffered their first defeat there in over 36 years. That pressure, followed by the conditions on offer give England a sizeable advantage heading into the game. The skies are expected to be overcast throughout the duration of the game and the pitch reportedly has a layer of grass, which should aid seam movement. England pacers are used to such conditions back home, and it could perfectly play the situation when the game begins later this week.
2. Tired Australian attack
Australia have decided to field the trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood for the first Test at Gabba. While the three are some of the finest bowlers in the longest format of the game, all were part of Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning squad and have had little red ball game time in the lead up to the series. Incessant rain has meant that practice has also been affected, meaning that England batters will hope to keep the bowlers on the field for long.

3. Fresh faces, ample rest for England players
England’s test regulars have had ample rest, with Rory Burns, Joe Root, Stuart Broad, James Anderson and Ollie Robinson all getting sufficient rest. Add to that the return of Ben Stokes, the visitors have a fresh and fit squad and will be raring to go when they take the field at the Gabba. England will have revenge on their minds after their loss to their rivals in 2019 and will hope to follow India’s blueprint and bust the Gabbatoir fortress.
