Asian Games: India win eight medals on the day, Saketh/Ramkumar assured of bronze in tennis

It's raining medals in shooting. India have won a total of eight medals on the day with seven coming from the shooters.

Indian shooters won a total of seven medals on Thursday, 28th September 2023. It includes two gold medals with Sift Kaur Samra topping the podium in Women’s 50m air rifle with a world record. There was also a gold in 25m pistol team event. The day also saw Vishnu Saravanan winning bronze in Sailing. With this, the country’s medals India’s medals tally at the Asian Games has gone up to 22 so far.

Squash

Following their straight set wins against Singapore and Qatar, Indian Men’s Squash team will take on Kuwait and Pakistan in their group stage. Both Kuwait and Pakistan will take on India after winning both their matches so far.

Kuwait defeated Nepal 3-0 and toppled Singapore 2-1. Pakistan meanwhile defeated Qatar 2-1 and clinched a 3-0 win against Nepal. All the three teams are aiming to extend their unbeaten run.

Women

Meanwhile, India Women’s team will face Nepal and Macau in the group stage. The Joshana Chinnappa-led side defeated Pakistan 3-0 in their opening group game. Nepal lost both their group matches so far. While Macau defeated Nepal 3-0. The Indian women will be the favourites in both the group matches.

Savita Punia-led Indian Women’s Hockey team will be facing Singapore in their opening group encounter. The Indian Men much recently clinched a 16-1 win against Singapore. The Women will aim for a similar show in the upcoming contest.

Table Tennis

After the team events, action in the individual events will get underway in Hockey. In Mixed Doubles, G Sathiyan and Manika Batra will take on Thailand’s Napat Thanmathikom and Suthasini Sawettabut.

The day will also witness Harmeet Desai and Sreeja Akula playing against Macau’s Li Hui Seak and Cheng Chi Cheong. Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar meanwhile will partner in Men’s Doubles. They will face Thailand’s Sitisak Nuchchart and Napat Thanmathikom.
