Here at InsideSport, we take a look at four big battles in the Asia Cup 2022

1. Virat Kohli vs Wanindu Hasaranga

Legendary batter Virat Kohli is always the hot topic. More so when he is out of form. The 33-year-old has not scored a fifty in his last six innings and he will be hungry for runs. Sri Lanka leg spinner Wanindu Hasranga will be eager to stop Kohli with his deceptive variations. The RCB leg spinner has an exceptional record against right-hand batters in the T20s. He has picked up a whopping 86 out of 116 wickets of right-hand batters. The task to stop Kohli will be a bit difficult as historically he is a good player of leg spin.

Hasaranga though thrives on challenges and Kohli is always up for it. The 33-year-old has faced his Lankan counterpart only for six balls in T20 cricket.

2. Babar Azam vs Rashid Khan

The number one ranked T20I batter Babar Azam is in form of his life. He is scoring runs in every format and in every condition. The Pakistan skipper has now set his sights on Asia Cup. Standing ins his way though is the skillful Afghanistan leg spinner, Rashid Khan. He has dismissed Azam five times in T20s, the most the Pakistan batter has got out to.

Whenever these two giants have come face-to-face, Rashid has dismissed Azam. The Afghan tweaker has conceded just 59 runs in 48 balls and has got Azam five times at an average of 11.80. The duo will meet again in Asia Cup for the second time in T20Is.

3. Hardik Pandya vs Mushfiqur Rahim

Bangladesh batter Rahim needed just 2 runs from three balls in the T20 World Cup match in 2016 against Hardik Pandya. What followed was absolute agony for Bangladeshi fans as India snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Rahim’s wicket resulted in an anti-climatic end as Pandya emerged as the hero. The duo since then have not come face to face. Now, in Asia Cup Rahim will come up against Pandya and try to take revenge of 2016.

4. Shadab Khan vs Bhanuka Rajapaska

Sir Lanka’s hard-hitting batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa is a good player of leg spin bowling. He has often taken on players in T20 cricket and has come on top of it. The southpaw has a chance to better that record against Pakistan leg spinner Shadab khan. The vice-captain always looks for wicket upfront and likes to attack from word go. Rajapaksa though has a good record against him as he has scored 45 runs off just 29 balls.

Sri Lanka will not face Pakistan in the group stages of the Asia Cup. However, in later stages, the two teams might come face each other.
