The BCCI has named a 15-member strong ODI squad for India ahead of the series in England. Virat Kohli returns under Shubman Gill.

Just a day after India’s dominating whitewash win over Afghanistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior men’s selection committee has revealed the much-anticipated one-day international squad for the England series. After two T20Is and Ireland and five against England, Team India will feature in a 3-match ODI rubber against the Three Lions. For the series, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have returned to the fore. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal agonisingly misses the squad despite scoring two hundreds in his last three ODIs.

Virat Kohli’s availability subject to fitness

While Virat Kohli has been able to make it to the team, his inclusion is based on subject to fitness clearance. The modern-day legend got a hamstring muscle issue while batting in the IPL 2026 final, where his unbeaten knock guided the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to its second consecutive title.

Due to that, he missed the Afghanistan series. As a result, India replaced him with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the side, who wasn’t initially selected. However, Jaiswal made merry as he clubbed a century in the last ODI in Chennai on Saturday. But there’s no place for him now, with Kohli coming in.

We got the news of Kohli’s injury update yesterday, knowing that he is recovering well and the Centre of Excellence physios are happy with his progress. The report claimed that Kohli will check in at CoE on June 22, where he will connect with BCCI doctors for further planning of his road to recovery. But with the ODI series still more than three weeks away, you’d expect him to be fit and available.

Kohli’s last ODI appearance came against New Zealand in January, and he signed off in style. The 37-year-old finished as India’s highest run-scorer in the series with 240 runs at an average of 80.

Jasprit Bumrah to play ODIs after 968 days

In the bowling department, India have been bolstered by the return of Jasprit Bumrah. The 2024 Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy award winner will play ODIs for the first time since the ODI World Cup 2023 final. Yes, you read that right.

Bumrah hasn’t played a single 50-over game since that infamous November 19 night in Ahmedabad. This is due to the fact that India manage his workload with utmost care, with Bumrah being the biggest national treasure. His bowling is unmatched, with the genuis pacer always being the point of difference.

The management has consistently kept him away from ODIs due to the fact that Bumrah was part of the two T20 World Cup (2024 and 2026) runs. In 2025, he was kept for crucial Tests as well. Now, Bumrah returns and will form an exciting pace attack alongside Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar.

This also means there’s no place for Mohammed Siraj, who is perhaps rested with India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka in mind. Brar has been rewarded for his exceptional debut series against Afghanistan, where he ended up being the highest wicket-taker (7 wickets in 3 innings). Same, however, cannot be said for Prince Yadav. Although Prince is part of India’s T20I side, unlike Brar.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya hasn’t been able to make himself fit for the series. This means Nitish Kumar Reddy will continue to grab chances to play as a pace-bowling all-rounder. Apart from this, Axar Patel is back in the side, with youngster Harsh Dubey getting dropped.
