Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Cricket never lets you breathe for long. Joe Root just cruised past 14,000 Test runs, faster than Sachin Tendulkar. In India’s camp, Yashasvi Jaiswal is grabbing every chance, scoring a century in the 3rd ODI against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma was also great but fell before a century. Over in Dambulla, Tilak Varma and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi felt the umpire’s wrath, both fined and the India A captain gave some words of confidence. Chennai saw Prasidh Krishna come alive, tearing through Afghanistan’s top order when India needed him most. And off the field, it’s relief and worry: Kohli’s hamstring recovery looks on track for England, but Hardik Pandya’s niggle has stalled his comeback again.

Virat Kohli injury update

Virat Kohli is progressing well from the right hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Afghanistan ODI series. Assessed by BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in London, he will undergo a fresh evaluation in Delhi on June 22. If cleared, the 37-year-old is expected to return for India’s ODIs against England on July 14, 16, and 19. His comeback is massive as India prepares for 2027 World Cup conditions in South Africa, with England’s swing providing a key test. Read more here.

Jaiswal puts pressure on Rohit Sharma

Yashasvi Jaiswal is turning up the heat on Rohit Sharma. His last 3 ODI scores read 116, 4, and 110. He smashed another hundred in Chennai after Kohli’s injury gave him a rare chance in the series. Rohit’s 79 was solid but he’s 0/9 without a century lately, and questions about fitness, age, and are growing with 2027 World Cup in sight. Jaiswal knows this is his shot and grabbed it, while still crediting Rohit for his advice. Read more here.

No Hardik Pandya for IND vs ENG ODIs

Hardik Pandya is set to miss India’s ODI series against England in July after failing to bowl his full 10-over quota at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Selectors want him fully fit as a genuine all-rounder for the 50-over format. Pandya had completed high-intensity training for the Afghanistan series but suffered a quadriceps strain hours before departure. Though not serious, the setback means India will have to manage without his pace and finishing ability in England. Read more here.

Joe Root scale mt 14k

Joe Root hit 14K Test runs on Day 4 of the 2nd ENG vs NZ Test at The Oval, Saturday. He reached it in 164 Tests, 7 matches faster than Sachin Tendulkar’s 171. With 41 centuries and 50.73 avg, he’s already the WTC’s top scorer with 6,577 runs. At this rate, Tendulkar’s 15,921 looks breakable in 2-3 years. Tilak Varma on Sooryavanshi’s controversy

India A captain Tilak Varma and opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi were both fined 30% of their match fee for conduct during the June 15 match against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla. Tilak argued with umpires over light, a Super Over, and a no-ball call, though he maintained it was only a conversation. Ahead of the June 21 final, Tilak backed Sooryavanshi fully. The 15-year-old’s scores of 14, 44, 21, and 38 show a transition from IPL to 50-over cricket, but Tilak urged him to play naturally without pressure. Read more here.

Prasidh Krishna masterclass

Prasidh Krishna delivered a powerplay masterclass in Chennai, taking 4 wickets with the new ball against Afghanistan. Only Mohammed Siraj has better powerplay figures for India since 2002, and Prasidh went on to complete his maiden ODI five-wicket haul. With Siraj and Bumrah rested, Prasidh swung and seamed the ball both ways, dismissing Gurbaz, Rahmat Shah, Zadran, and Rasooli. Rohit Sharma took three catches at first slip as Afghanistan’s top order collapsed. His fifth wicket came in the 45th over in the form of centurion Hashmatullah Shahidi. Read more here.
