Mohun Bagan wins 5-0: It had been one-way traffic throughout the first 45 minutes as ATK Mohun Bagan lead 3-0 going into the first half. Hugo Boumous has been absolutely brilliant and was a constant threat for Blue Star defenders. However, with two goals to his name, it was Joni Kauko who stole all the limelight. The midfielder made the most of his freedom against Blue Star.
Blue Star would’ve hoped to return back to Sri Lanka with a respectable scoreline but unfortunately for them lost they conceded five goals. Arsh Anwar did not have much to do apart from an early save in the first half but was called into action late in the game to keep his clean sheet intact.

The Mariners had qualified straight to the preliminary round two after finishing runners-up to Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League 2020-21. Blue Star SC, on the other hand, defeated Nepal’s Machhindra FC 2-1 in an away first preliminary round match to set up a clash against the Mariners.
