“The minor appeared before a magistrate and gave her statement on Wednesday,” a senior Delhi Police officer told Indian Express.

The police officer also confirmed that the WFI had received a notice requesting specific documents and information about the competitions in which the complainants had competed. Some of the alleged sexual harassment instances took place at events where Brij Bhushan was also present.

According to Section 161 of the CrPC, the police recorded the complainants’ statements last week. These can’t be used in court, though.

“The statements of the other six complainants are yet to be recorded before the magistrate,” that police officer added.

Additionally, the Delhi Police has obtained the report of the oversight committee, presided over by Olympian boxer Mary Kom, that was established to look into the allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan, as well as the statements of 15 witnesses connected to the case.

Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik, one of the protesting wrestlers, pleaded with a magistrate on Saturday to record the claimed victims’ accounts.

The WFI president was the target of separate charges of criminal intimidation and sexual harassment made by seven female wrestlers, including the juvenile, on April 21.

Later, the wrestlers complained to the Supreme Court that the police were failing to file formal complaints. The police then filed two FIRs, one in accordance with the POCSO Act and the second in response to complaints made by adult female wrestlers.

Why are Wrestlers Protesting?

Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi as well as World Championship medalist Vinesh Phogat are among the top wrestlers from India who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since April 23.

They have stated that they will stop protesting until Brij Bhushan is taken into custody in accordance with the necessary laws.
