Speaking on ‘The Ranveer Show’ the 21-year old batter said, “Smriti and I had the opportunity to talk to him. We had asked him ‘we want to speak to you Virat bhaiya about batting. Can we meet?’. We were in the same hotel in New Zealand. He was like ‘yeah sure, come’. So he called us at the cafe and Anushka Sharma was also there. We had asked him for just a few minutes but we ended up speaking for four hours. We spoke half an hour about batting but after that it was just normal things.”
Rodrigues revealed that they spoke about a lot of things from batting and considered herself lucky to be able to meet people at the right time in her career, who have inspired and helped her. Further, she revealed that she also asked him about how to handle expectations as someone like Kohli has always performed under the burden of huge expectations.
“I asked him about how to handle expectations. I told him ‘You are Virat Kohli. If you’ve scored a fifty, it’s like you have underperformed for people. So how do you handle that expectation?’ He said ‘for me everytime I am out there on the field, I just look at the scoreboard and just focus on it. Do that and don’t focus on crowd and what I can do to help India win. If I stop giving these expectations importance, and just look at the process, the results will automatically follow’,” she added.
Kohli, who has learned so much under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, never misses a chance to talk to the young players whether in the IPL or in the national side and recently even shared some words of wisdom with the U-19 boys before the final of the tournament.
Virat Kohli will be playing his 100th Test match on 4th March against Sri Lanka at Mohali. He will become the 11th Indian batter to achieve the feat of representing India in 100 Test matches. Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues is in New Zealand with the Indian team for the Women’s World Cup 2022.
