Novak Djokovic is set to play in the tournament that will serve as his warm-up ahead of his title defence at the Australian Open this year

World No.1 Novak Djokovic has some big tournaments lined up for the next few months. While the 36-year old is aiming to secure his ranking as the year-end Number 1, he has already chosen his first tournament in 2024.

Novak Djokovic beats compatriot Laslo Djere in a 5-set marathon match, 4-6 4-6 6-1 6-1 6-3, to move into the 4th round of the US Open 2023.

Novak Djokovic will headline a stellar field at the second edition of the United Cup. The multi-nation event will begin from 29th December. Perth and Sydney will host the tournament.

24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will lead his country Serbia and will make his debut in the tournament. It will serve as a warm-up event for Djokovic ahead of the Australian Open. The 36-year old will be defending his title in the tournament in 2024.

What to expect at this year’s United Cup?

Five of the world’s top 10 women and nine of the world’s top 20 men will feature at the mixed team event in 2024. The draw will be revealed on 23 October.

The event will feature a total of 18 countries. It includes top five ranked countries in ATP and WTA each. The event will also feature top six combined entry countries. The final two countries will be added to the tournament based on the rankings on November 20.

The eighteen countries will be drawn into six groups of three countries. In the group stage, all the nations will compete in the round-robin format.

Djokovic in Nadal Out

While Novak Djokovic features in the entry list, his long-time rival Rafael Nadal will not be representing Spain. Nadal played in the tournament last year.

He has been out of action since the Australian Open last year. While he has been announced in the entry list for the upcoming Australian Open, Nadal’s comeback date has not been specified yet.

Apart from Novak Djokovic, other top players to feature in United Cup includes Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Hubert Hurkacz, Iga Swiatek and Maria Sakkari.
